Massive EU eBook Launch Coming Soon

UPDATE: (5.10.11) [Lucasfilm Confirms]

All Star Wars eBooks from Del Rey and Bantam Spectra will include additional content at the back of the book. The extra content will include the following:

  • An updated Star Wars novels timeline
  • An introduction to the six major Star Wars eras: The Old Republic, Rise of the Empire, Rebellion, The New Republic, New Jedi Order, and Legacy
  • Over half a dozen additional excerpts from some of the most popular Star Wars books of the last thirty years

Release date: June 28, 2011.

Max Jaybo from NJOE has discovered that on August 17, 2011 a total of 96 Expanded Universe titles will become available in eBook format. [Link]

Here is the link to the online catalog. Once you’re there, type “Star Wars” in the main search box, and you should be good to go. Club Jade has set up a helpful explanation of the entry boxes.

This is no doubt exciting news for fans of the Expanded Universe who enjoy the eBook format!

Crimson Empire III Series Coming Soon

    as of now, the title is simply STAR WARS: DARTH PLAGUEIS.

    Oh, I’m reading page proofs to SHADOW GAMES right now, and for those into page counts, it’s 338 pages. Here’s something on page 238….

    “In case you haven’t noticed, Captain, there are Imperials all over the place. It would be in our customer’s interests to be discreet.” The Wookiee said something, to which Han replied, “Of course I’m discreet. I’m always discreet.” To Dash he said, “What’d you have in mind?”

  • Sue Rostoni answered a few questions today. [Link] One was an answer to a question that I asked about how the last three Fate of the Jedi novel covers would differ from the rest, as mentioned in the Random House Fall 2011 Catalog Ascension Entry. The Conviction, Ascension and Apocalypse covers will have colored highlights against black backgrounds.
  • Paul S. Kemp gave us a brief Riptide update. [Link]

    Fired off final corrections to RIPTIDE page proofs. I won’t see the book again until, well, it’s an actual book.

  • StarWars.com has posted a Star Wars schedule of events at the upcoming WonderCon 2011. [Link]

Star Wars Announcements From C2E2 2011

This year’s Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo provided much in the way of Star Wars product announcements. Here is a rundown of the main announcements from Del Rey (via Star Wars Action News) and Dark Horse (via ForceCast).

Del Rey

  • James Luceno’s Darth Plagueis novel is finished and will be out in the next year.
  • The Phantom Menace and Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter novels to each have a new James Luceno short story featuring Darth Maul.
  • Aaron Allston’s new ‘Wraith Squadron’ novel is due to be released next summer; the manuscript is being written at this time.
  • Nothing is planned at the moment, but Del Rey would like to publish another “Tales Of” book.
  • The Making Of Return of the Jedi was officially announced.
  • Original short stories are returning to Star Wars Insider. Next will be “First Blood” by Christie Golden then “Buyer’s Market” by Timothy Zahn featuring Lando Calrissian.

Dark Horse

  • Darth Vader and the Last Command will be collected as a hardcover
  • The next Dark Times arc will feature Darth Vader on the hunt for Jedi Jennir.
  • Knight Errant: Deluge starts in August. Kerra Holt will be back. Hang glider-like starfighters will be featured.
  • Darth Revan will be featured on the cover for 2nd issue in the next The Old Republic arc.
  • Crimson Empire III will take place 2 years after Crimson Empire II.
  • There are no plans for Star Wars Battlefront, Rogue Squadron or Darth Bane comics, but “never say never”.
  • John Ostrander and Jan Duursema are working on a new untiltled series.
  • Dark Horse is hoping to build a more integrated relationship with Del Rey regarding Star Wars novels.
  • Expect more direct tie ins to The Clone Wars from Dark Horse in the future.
  • George Lucas: No Quinlan Vos comic stories for now.
  • Look for Dark Horse to continue with 3 to 4 Star Wars comic books per month for this year at the least.
  • Star Wars will be featured in the new “Dark Horse Presents” in some way, shape or form.
  • Dark Horse is shying away from the era between the Star Wars movie trilogies.

New Comic Series: Agent of the Empire

Dark Horse Comics revealed at C2E2 a new upcoming Star Wars series, Agent of the Empire, by John Ostrander. Set during the time of the Galactic Empire, prior to the events of Episode IV A New Hope, the new series focuses on an Imperial intelligence agent whose undercover assignments take him across the galaxy to exotic locales, filled with danger and intrigue. Ostrander describes it as Star Wars, with a touch of James Bond and the Bourne series.

Agent of the Empire is scheduled for a December release.
