Random HouseJust announced at the New York Comic Con Del Rey Star Wars panel: KENOBI by John Jackson Miller! This is a tentative title and accompanies the promotional artwork above, but I’m excited from just looking at that art! Superb job by Chris Scalf. Link

New Star Wars: Crucible Cover Art

Del Rey has again changed the cover art for the upcoming Star Wars: Crucible, written by Troy Denning and due out July 2, 2013. The first cover change was relatively minor, but this one is drastically different than the original. It looks good, but I prefer the original version.

Star Wars Web Shorts

Del Rey has re-released the old web shorts that were once found on the official Star Wars website!

We didn’t want these fun stories to be lost so in cooperation with Pablo Hidalgo and Lucasfilm we’ve built a new library for the Star Wars Web Shorts on the Random House genre blog, Suvudu.com. The library launched today and you can currently find the 10 stories that are mentioned in the Reader’s Companion. We hope to add more material to the library in the near future.

Click here to go to the library. The current list includes:

  • Labor Pains
  • Crossroads
  • Shades of Gray: from the Adventures of Alex Winger
  • The Old Republic: Smuggler’s Vanguard

Dawn Of The Jedi: Into The Void Summary

The edelweiss online catalog now has a listing for the upcoming Dawn Of The Jedi: Into The Void by Tim Lebbon, and with it comes some new information about the book! Link

Taking place thousands of years before the time of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. On the remote world Tython ancient philosophers and scientists share their mystical knowledge and study the ways of the Force. They establish the order of the Je’daii-which, in years to come, will become the Jedi. But first these visitors from so many different planets must colonize a dangerous new homeworld and surmount societal conflicts as the burgeoning Rakatan Empire prepares to conquer the known galaxy.

Some of the marketing points also shed some light…

COMIC EXCERPT: This novel will feature a full-color excerpt from the Dawn of the Jedi comic book, while an upcoming Dawn of the Jedi graphic novel will contain an excerpt from this book.

ORIGINS OF THE JEDI: Chronologically-speaking this will be one of the earliest Star Wars stories ever told, revealing the origins of the Jedi Order, a major event for Star Wars fans.

CLOSE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN COMIC AND BOOK: This novel was written with the full cooperation and creative consultation of the creators of the Dawn of the Jedi comic book. All possibilities for cross-promotion will be exploited.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Blurb

Random House has posted the cover synopsis for Star Wars: The Last Jedi , due out February 26, 2013! Link

KNIGHT OF RECKONING

The Emperor’s ruthless Order 66 has all but exterminated the Jedi. The few remaining who still wield the Force for good have been driven into exile or hiding. But not Jax Pavan, who’s been steadily striking blows against the Empire—as a lone guerrilla fighter and a valued partner of Whiplash, a secret Coruscant-based resistance group. Now he’s taking on his most critical mission: transporting a valued Whiplash leader, targeted for assassination, from Coruscant to safety on a distant world. It’s a risky move under any circumstances, but Jax and his trusted crew aboard the Far Ranger, including the irrepressible droid I-Five, are prepared to pit their combat skills and their vessel’s firepower against all Imperial threats—except the one Jax fears most. Reports have raced across the galaxy that the dark lord of the Sith has fallen in a duel to the death with a Rebel freedom fighter. But Jax discovers the chilling truth when he reaches out with the Force . . . only to touch the dark, unmistakable, and malignantly alive presence that is Darth Vader. And Jax knows that Vader will stop at nothing until the last Jedi has fallen.

The Essential Novels eBook Bundles

Earlier in the day, I happened to find two brand new listings over at the Random House site catalog.

The Essential Novels: Star Wars 10-Book Bundle
and The Essential Novels: Star Wars Reads Day Special Edition: 4-Book Bundle

As you can see, there is nothing there at this point but the titles. Speculation hardly got off the ground before Del Rey made an official announcement about an hour later:

To celebrate Star Wars Reads Day (October 6th), Del Rey is releasing two eBook bundles. Both will be available on October 2nd, to lead into Reads Day.

The first is a ten-book bundle of Essential Novels, and the second is a special four-book “Reads Day Edition” that will be available for a limited time at a massively-discounted price of $7.99. The novels featured in the two editions are:

STAR WARS: THE ESSENTIAL NOVELS (10 Books):

The Old Republic: Deceived
Republic Commando: Hard Contact
Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader
Death Troopers
Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor
X-Wing: Rogue Squadron
Heir to the Empire
New Jedi Order: Vector Prime
Legacy of the Force: Betrayal
Crosscurrent

THE ESSENTIAL NOVELS READS DAY EDITION (4 Books for $7.99):

X-Wing: Rogue Squadron
Heir to the Empire
New Jedi Order: Vector Prime
Legacy of the Force: Betrayal

Both will available on all major e-reading platforms.

We tried to feature a good entry point book from various SW eras. We’re curious, if you guys were going to put together a bundle of ten “Essential Star Wars Novels,” what would you include?

There have been mixed reactions about the book choices, but you can’t deny that these two eBook bundles will be very popular, especially the Reads Day Edition priced at $7.99! Bring on Star Wars Reads Day!

New Expanded Universe Series: Sword Of The Jedi

One of the announcements to come from the Del Rey panel at Celebration VI is the upcoming new post-Fate of the Jedi series Sword of the Jedi, by Christie Golden!

The announcement was followed by a huge roar of approval from the audience. Release date is forthcoming.

I-Five Returns in The Last Jedi

We’ve known since 2010 that I-5YQ would appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and now we have further details regarding one of the Expanded Universe’s most popular droids. While not revealing much, co-author Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff talks about I-5 in her latest blog entry and gives us some idea of what to expect. Link

I-Five has a sterling sense of honor and integrity on top of being logical and fearless in the face of just about everything. But the thing that makes him so special to me is his loyalty—to Jax, to Den, to the Resistance that will one day evolve into a full fledged Rebellion. That and his indomitability. I-Five is the energizer bunny of droids, the Timex tin man who takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’.

He is unique and, in each book in which he appears, that uniqueness is refined upon just a bit. The Last Jedi is, for I-5YQ a tour de force (and no, I didn’t catch the pun until I got to it). And I have to admit, for reasons I think you’ll understand when you read the book, he was especially fun to write in this Jax Pavan adventure.

I don’t want to stop writing about this droid. I feel as if his story is still unfinished. And besides, I love him.

Maya, I don’t want to stop reading about him! Star Wars: The Last Jedi is due out February 26, 2013.

Star Wars: Crucible: Last Hurrah For The Big 3?

Star Wars: Crucible has been added to the Edelweiss/Random House online catalog, and the entry includes some interesting information about the book: Link

FATE OF THE JEDI FOLLOW-UP: Releasing a year after Apocalypse, this is the first book to follow the popular nine-book Fate of the Jedi series. As such it will be eagerly aniticipated by fans desperate to know what’s in store for their beloved Star Wars heroes.

SETS UP NEW SERIES: With this book, Han, Luke, and Leia are passing the torch to the next generation of Star Wars heroes, and the stage will be set for the next major Star Wars series.

THE HEROES RETURN: This will be the first cover to feature Han, Luke, and Leia since the 1990s!

I’m really curious about the second point there. Will this be the last novel at this point in Expanded Universe timeline to feature the Big 3? We shall see…
